Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday night started meeting with Indian officials this morning on Friday.
At the first meeting, Zarif sat with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then met with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj before meeting Indian Minister of Shipping and Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari.
During the talk with Zarif, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the depth of relations between the two states and expressed hope for development of the ties following the international events after the Iran-Sextet agreement of July 14.
Narendra Modi also brought up the issue of Iran’s Chabahar Port, where the Indians are interested in investment there, and restated his country’s willingness for cooperation in the development of the port.
The Indian Prime Minister pointed to his meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the Russian city of Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and quoted him as saying that Iran is also determined to bolster ties with India.
Reiterating Iran’s peace-making role in the region, FM Zarif for his part said that Iran was in face of stability in the region and would support diplomatic ways to cement the peace in Western Asia.
Zarif also called for international joint action against ISIL saying that extremism, terrorism, and violence were threats to the whole world.
Iranian Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari and the National Security Advisor of India in the afternoon.
Moreover, Zarif will hold a press conference in Iran’s embassy in New Delhi at the end of his meetings to respond the questions raised by the reporters.
